Visitation and phone calls
- Each inmate is allowed visitation for one hour every week
- They are allowed to make one free phone call after being processed, but any other calls are made using their phone account which requires money to be deposited into their phone account. (This is separate from their commissary account.)
Jail Stats
- Process an average of 3,000 inmates per year
- 159 beds split between 8 pods
- House approximately 65 federal inmates and 50 state inmates, and an additional 45 pre-trial inmates
- Male and female inmates must be separated at all times
- We have a control room that is manned 24/7
- Control room is responsible for monitroring the 43 cameras and 88 doors that are inside the correctional facility
- 23 full time jail employees and one part time employee
Inmate Work Release/Re-Entry Program
- In 2019, the Obion County Sheriff’s Office implemented a Work Release/Re-Entry Program for selected inmates held at the facility.
- Inmates are selected based on their Charges (Non-Violent, No Escape Charges, No Failure to Appear, No Sex Crimes
- Originally partnered with Williams Sausage Company and have expanded to Excel Boat Company
- Currently employee 20 inmates
- Transported to the plant by bus, picked up at the end of workday and transported back to jail
- Williams Sausage employees are supervised by a Correctional Officer on-site
- Searched upon return from work, subject to random drug screening, dressed out in jail attire and housed
- Inmates are paid an hourly wage same as civilians
- A $28 per day fee is collected from their wages to offset the expenses of the processing required to allow them to work. This fee is collected from their wages every week.
- An additional 25% is deducted from their NET pay and is applied to fines, court costs, and back child support.
- Inmates are allowed to allocate a certain amount to a savings account to go toward rent or utilities once they are released from their sentence.
- Inmates have the opportunity to send out a portion of their earnings to family members to help with expenses outside the jail once a month.
- Any funds remaining is deposited in their commissary account and can be used to purchase items allowed through the commissary company like snacks, drinks, hygiene, and certain clothing items
Other Inmate Programs
- Based on their charges, certain inmates are eligible for other work and/or in-house programs where they are not paid but receive a day off their sentence for every day that they work.
- Inmates are provided for the Litter Grant Program when weather permits
- They are utilized extensively at the Obion County Fairgrounds to prepare for the fair, maintain the grounds during the fair, and cleanup and storage of booths after the fair.
- They are utilized by several of the local governments to assist at their public works departments
- They are available to work for any government or non-profit organization. They cannot work for a private individual or company or a for profit organization.
- They are also allowed and encouraged to participate in several in-house classes where they receive work credit toward their sentence, like Parenting Classes, Substance Abuse Classes,
- Inmates are also allowed to practice their religion within limits, and participate in ministerial sermons if they choose, and the facility also allows Baptisms on-site if requested.
