Qualifications to become a Deputy for OCSO
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Be a United States Citizen
- Have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Must possess a VALID TN Driver’s License or be eligible for TN Driver’s License prior to appointment
- Be physical fit for normal police functions
- Pass a background investigation consisting of local, state and national criminal record checks, financial, medical, military, and educational record checks.
- Pass an entrance exam
- Pass an Oral Board Interview
- Pass a Physical Examination
- Pass a Drug Screen
- Pass a Psychological Evaluation
PATROL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Answer all calls for service from citizens as dispatched
- Serve Warrants, Summons, and Civil Papers issued from the Courthouse
- Check on businesses and any residence that has requested an extra watch while they are away
- Required to complete and pass a minimum of 40 hours on in-service training every year
- Must qualify on the shooting range every year with their service weapon, rifle, shotgun, and any backup weapon the deputy carries
- Deputies are designated to a specific zone of the county while on duty, the East or the West, and answer calls dispatched to them in that particular zone
- There are 4 shifts that work 12-hour shifts, consisting of a Sergeant and 3 Deputies
